A Detroit grandmother has been arraigned on child abuse and assault charges after allegedly stabbing her own grandson last week.

Alisha Caver, 56, has been charged with first-degree child abuse, assault with intent to do great bodily harm and felonious assault.

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy says Caver stabbed the 2-year-old boy in the head multiple times with a knife around 1:30 a.m. Thursday.

When authorities arrived to the home in the 5200 block of Chrysler Drive – near I-75 and Warren Avenue in Midtown Detroit – the boy was bleeding from the right side of his head, according to the prosecutor’s office.

He was rushed to a hospital. While he was said to be in critical condition on Friday, his condition had not been updated, as of Sunday afternoon.

It remains unclear why Caver allegedly stabbed the boy.

Caver was given a $10,000 bond and ordered to have no contact with her grandson, according to reports.

Her next court appearance has been scheduled for Wednesday.
