Two women were charged after a 14-month-old child allegedly fatally drowned when the suspects left the toddler alone so they could go use meth.

According to WKYT-TV, on Nov. 16, 41-year-old Monica Goodwin and 44-year-old Erica Goodwin were at home with Monica’s 14-month-old child, and the women went upstairs to one of the bedrooms. In that time, the child allegedly crawled into a hot tub inside the home and drowned.

During a search of the home, deputies with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office reportedly found drug paraphernalia. The women admitted to regularly using meth, WDKY-TV reports.

According to the complaint obtained by WDKY, “The circumstances surrounding this incident manifest an extreme indifference to human life and created a grave risk of death to the child.”

On Nov. 28, the suspects were both arrested and booked into the Clark County Detention Center on $50,000 bond each, records show. According to WKYT, they face manslaughter charges.

The women are reportedly scheduled to appear in court on Monday, Dec. 5.
