Alexis Saborit, of Shakopee, Minnesota. Saborit, 44-years-old, was found guilty of the brutal crime this past Thursday (May 11).
On July 28, 2021, local law enforcement said Saborit and his then-girlfriend, 55-year-old America Thayer, were on their way to a court appearance.
Once they made it to downtown Shakopee, Saborit struck Thayer with an 8-pound dumbbell as they sat in the car. After that, Saborit decapitated Thayer with a machete.
Once they made it to downtown Shakopee, Saborit struck Thayer with an 8-pound dumbbell as they sat in the car. After that, Saborit decapitated Thayer with a machete.
After beheading his then-girlfriend, Saborit pulled her headless body out of their car at Fourth Avenue and Spencer Street. He ditched his machete, then fled the scene.
The ordeal was filmed by nearby witnesses who also contacted the authorities. Police later found and arrested Saborit at a Travelodge Hotel, where he was staying at the time. Thayer’s severed head was apparently still in his car.
At the time, another witness said they were hanging out with the couple earlier that day and things were fine until Thayer tried to convince Saborit to make a court appearance.
Speaking with police at the time, Saborit told them that he and Thayer were together for several years and agreed that they were going to court so that he could officially end their relationship.
Police said he then claimed that he killed Thayer in self-defense using a knife. He reportedly told them that Thayer was trying to extort then murder him.
It was also noted that he had a previous domestic violence case from 2017.
After his arrest, Saborit was charged with second-degree murder.
Two years later, despite Saborit and his attorney claiming that he has mental health issues, he has now been found guilty of first-degree premeditated murder. He is scheduled to return to court for a review hearing on June 1.
A Scott County judge said, “[Saborit] used both an 8-pound dumbbell and machete during his assault. [His] decision to put down the dumbbell and use the machete is evidence of a deliberate mental thought process.”
Following the verdict, Thayer’s 42-year-old son, Charles Thayer, spoke with the Star Tribune and said, “My mom never deserved to have this happen in the first place. This monster deserves to be put away for life.”
Wow, what a scumbag…
Probably what attracted her to this piece of garbage in the first place!!!
