A quiet night in South Los Angeles turned unsettling when a family discovered a stranger had slipped into their apartment — and the whole thing was caught on camera.

The bizarre break-in happened at an apartment complex in Leimert Park. Surveillance footage shows a scruffy man wearing a red shirt and jacket approaching a window, removing the screen, lifting it open and climbing inside.

From there, he casually stepped over the family’s couch and wandered through the living room as if he belonged there.

“He came to the window, pulled the screen off, lifted up the window, climbed over my couch and he was walking around,” resident Pazz Johnson said. “I don’t know what he was doing, but it’s frightening.”

According to the family, the man — who had a beard and long hair — didn’t appear to steal anything. Instead, cameras captured him shuffling around the apartment, even spreading the family’s remote controls across the couch before eventually unlocking the front door and walking out.

It’s still unclear what his intentions were.

The sound of the door being unlatched woke the family, who had left the window open for airflow. They later realized just how close the situation could have come to something worse — their daughter sometimes sleeps on the very couch the intruder climbed over.

The Los Angeles Police Department is now investigating the incident. The footage reportedly provides a clear view of the suspect’s face.

Neighbors say the whole situation feels deeply unsettling.

“That really scares me,” neighbor Sylva Cox said. “The fact that he just came in and left. It’s so weird.”

For the Johnson family, the incident has changed how they think about security.

“It’s definitely frightening and makes you rethink some things,” Pazz said.

One immediate lesson? No more open windows.

“I know I won’t leave the windows open anymore — that’s guaranteed,” Gregory added.
