A Texas woman has been arrested months after her husband’s death — a case that authorities originally believed was a suicide.
Breyanai Moore, 31, was taken into custody on March 4 in connection with the 2025 shooting death of her husband, 33-year-old Lonnie Moore, according to investigators.
Lonnie Moore was found dead inside a parked vehicle in New Caney, Texas, on June 15, 2025. Deputies responded to the scene around 9 a.m. and discovered him inside the car with the engine still running. He had suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head.
At first, the scene appeared to suggest Lonnie had taken his own life.
But investigators say the case quickly raised questions.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office said detectives conducted a detailed investigation of the scene and uncovered evidence that did not match a self-inflicted shooting.
“As the investigation progressed, evidence was uncovered that contradicted the initial assessment of a self-inflicted wound,” the sheriff’s office said.
After nearly nine months of investigation, authorities identified Breyanai Moore as a suspect.
Court documents reveal that Moore allegedly told investigators she had texted Lonnie earlier that morning to tell him she planned to file for divorce. She reportedly claimed she had been home all night with the couple’s 5-year-old daughter.
However, investigators later received a tip from a friend who said Moore had allegedly admitted to shooting her husband from the back seat of his vehicle after he picked her up.
Authorities also spoke with Moore’s mother, who reportedly told detectives that her daughter had strongly disliked Lonnie. She also said Moore appeared deeply emotional after his death, crying frequently and losing weight.
Based on the evidence gathered during the investigation, an arrest warrant was issued.
Moore was taken into custody and booked into the Montgomery County Jail, where she is currently being held without bond.
