A night at Universal’s CityWalk allegedly turned into a jaw-dropping parenting fail after a Florida mom is accused of ditching her 12-year-old daughter at a bar — then strolling off to another spot to dance.
Amanda Thorpe, 33, is charged with child neglect, according to court records. Deputies say Thorpe and her daughter were at the CW Shoreline Bar on Saturday night when Thorpe got into an argument with another patron. Police claim she was already intoxicated.
According to an arrest affidavit, Thorpe decided she wanted to leave and head to a different bar. Her daughter, however, wanted to go back to their hotel room — and that’s when things allegedly escalated fast. Investigators say Thorpe became “livid,” flipped her daughter off, told her “f— you,” and walked out of the bar without her, heading toward the Red Coconut Club.
Other patrons reportedly noticed the girl sitting alone and called police. When deputies arrived, they said the child was “visibly upset,” crying, and sitting by herself on a bar stool.
Deputies then went to the Red Coconut Club, where they say they found Thorpe on the dance floor alone, holding a drink. When asked where her daughter was, Thorpe allegedly first claimed she thought the girl had been with her the entire time. She later told deputies the child was in their hotel room, according to police.
The affidavit describes Thorpe as having bloodshot eyes, swaying uncontrollably, struggling with balance while walking, and smelling like alcohol on her breath.
Thorpe was arrested and taken to the Orange County Jail. Records indicate she later posted a $2,500 bond.
