A wild scene unfolded in central Wisconsin this week after police say a man jumped into an ambulance — with a sick patient strapped inside — and took off on a reckless chase.

Benjamin Feltz, 37, is now facing a long list of felony charges, including first-degree recklessly endangering safety, taking and driving a vehicle without consent, fleeing or eluding an officer, and threatening to cause bodily harm to individuals involved in the legal system. Court records show he’s also been hit with six misdemeanor counts.

According to authorities, the chaos began Tuesday night in Wisconsin Rapids. Paramedics had just loaded a patient into the back of an ambulance when a man suddenly climbed into the driver’s seat and sped away.

“What are you doing?” first responders reportedly yelled. They shouted, “Get out!” and “Stop!” — but the driver kept going.

The patient in the back was terrified.

She later told police she feared for her life and screamed at the driver, “I’m dying from kidney disease.”

Body camera footage released by the Wisconsin Rapids Police Department shows the ambulance weaving through traffic, swerving around spike strips meant to flatten its tires, cutting through a landfill, and barreling onto a highway.

At one point, officers could be heard relaying a description of the suspect: “Dude is naked. And it looks like he has brown long hair and a beard.”

The chase finally came to an end when the ambulance veered off the highway and got stuck in a field. Officers surrounded the vehicle and ordered the suspect to shut it off and exit with his hands up.

He complied and was taken into custody. Police were then able to check on the patient, who was transported to a nearby hospital.

But the bizarre ordeal didn’t stop there.

According to the criminal complaint, Feltz allegedly continued making threats while in custody. He reportedly told one officer, “It’s time for you to feel my pain,” and “It’s your turn to die.” At one point, he allegedly admitted, “Yes, I’m threatening you.”

Investigators say Feltz also told them he had consumed roughly half a bottle of chemical cleaner earlier in the day and that there may have been marijuana in his system.

He was scheduled to make his initial court appearance Friday afternoon as the case moves forward.

  1. As usual, drugs are involved. This is a curse on society that must be stopped at all costs. We can’t keep going on this way.

  2. Too bad he didn’t die from all the chemical cleaner that he drank. Now we have to house and feed this idiot who doesn’t need to exist
