A Canadian tourist was injured in a frightening, seemingly random stabbing while visiting one of New York City’s most popular holiday destinations — and police are still searching for whoever is responsible.

According to reports from WABC, WNBC, and amNewYork, the 44-year-old man was visiting Bryant Park on Monday, Dec. 30, when the incident occurred around 5:30 p.m.

The tourist had bent down to tie his shoe when he suddenly felt a sharp pain in his leg. At first, he didn’t realize what had happened.

It wasn’t until he walked into a nearby store to check his leg that he noticed blood running down, amNewYork reported. Emergency responders were called, and the man was rushed to the hospital.

NBC reported that his condition was stable and that he is expected to recover.

Police said the victim told them he had been visiting Bryant Park’s Winter Village, a busy seasonal attraction that draws large crowds of locals and tourists alike. He was exiting the park when he was stabbed.

The man reportedly did not see an attacker, and authorities believe the incident may have been a random act, according to amNewYork.

As of now, no arrests have been made. ABC reported that it remains unclear whether police have a description of the suspect.
