A California man who shot and killed his girlfriend in front of their two small children has been sentenced to decades behind bars, prosecutors said.

Romier Taguiam Narag, 30, was convicted in February 2026 of first-degree murder with a firearm and child endangerment for the 2023 killing of Frances Lucero, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office.

Prosecutors said the shooting happened on March 6, 2023, outside the couple’s home in Redwood City, California, following a heated argument.

During the confrontation, Narag pulled out a gun and shot Lucero twice in the back, authorities said. She reportedly tried to run away as the shots were fired.

The entire attack happened in front of the couple’s two young children, who were just 3 and 4 years old at the time.

Police arrested Narag at the scene shortly after the shooting.

In a statement following the sentencing, prosecutors said the impact of the crime will follow the children for the rest of their lives.

“The defendant has orphaned his own children and the devastation will last their entire lives,” the district attorney’s office said.

Narag was formally sentenced on March 5 and will serve 64 years to life in prison.

During the hearing, Narag reportedly expressed remorse and told the court he hated himself for what he had done, according to reports.

His defense attorney argued that the killing happened during a jealous rage after Lucero told him she no longer wanted to be in the relationship.

Lucero was 27 years old when she died.

Family members described her as a loving mother whose life revolved around her children. In a GoFundMe campaign created after her death, relatives said she was known for her kindness and the way she supported everyone around her.

“Frances dedicated her life to her children and always spread the love she had to share,” the family wrote. “She was genuine, thoughtful, loyal and ambitious — the kind of friend who celebrated your good moments and stood by you through the hard ones.”
