Aaron Roberson (Blount County Sheriff's Office)

An Alabama man is facing multiple criminal charges after authorities say he allowed a toddler to ride on his motorcycle without a helmet before crashing the bike and fleeing the scene.

Aaron Roberson, 32, was arrested about a month after the alleged incident and charged with second-degree assault, leaving the scene of an accident involving injuries, reckless endangerment, and reckless driving, according to Blount County jail records.

Investigators say the incident happened on February 14, when Roberson allegedly got on his motorcycle while under the influence of alcohol. Authorities claim he allowed an 18-month-old child to ride with him, even though neither of them was wearing a helmet.

At some point during the ride, Roberson was reportedly speeding on a paved road when he lost control and crashed the motorcycle.

Officials say the toddler suffered serious injuries to the face and head in the crash.

Instead of calling for help or reporting the accident, investigators say Roberson left the scene without contacting police or emergency responders.

Court documents state that Roberson failed to provide necessary assistance to the injured child and allegedly fled with other people who were present at the scene.

Authorities have not publicly confirmed the current condition of the child or Roberson.

Roberson was taken into custody on Wednesday and booked into the Blount County Jail. His bond was set at $37,000, and he was released the following day.

Blount County is located in northern Alabama, roughly 50 miles north of Birmingham.

Officials have not released additional details as the investigation continues.
