A shocking case out of Florida has taken a grim turn after a woman was arrested for allegedly killing her boyfriend and trying to cover it up in disturbing ways.

Ashley Averett, 32, of Fountain, Florida, is now facing a murder charge in connection with the death of her boyfriend, 38-year-old Joseph Eiler, according to authorities.

The case began as a missing person investigation after Eiler was reported missing on March 14. His family hadn’t seen him since the early morning hours of March 12—and what happened that morning is now at the center of the case.

Eiler’s father told investigators he heard the couple arguing around 4 a.m. that day. After that, Eiler vanished and never showed up for work, raising immediate concern.

When deputies first spoke with Averett on March 16, she reportedly claimed the two had argued and that Eiler left the home with an unknown friend. But things quickly unraveled.

Later that same day, Eiler’s father contacted authorities again, reporting alarming behavior at the home. He said he heard another argument followed by what sounded like gunshots. He also described seeing Averett burning items in a fire pit and asking how to dispose of ashes.

According to investigators, he also noticed strange changes inside the home—missing bed sheets, unusual placement of a firearm, and what appeared to be heavy cleaning activity.

Then came a major break in the case.

Another witness told authorities that Averett allegedly admitted to shooting Eiler while he slept and trying to dispose of his body.

When questioned again, Averett allegedly confessed. Investigators say she admitted to shooting Eiler twice, dismembering his body, and burying his remains in different areas of the yard. She also reportedly purchased cleaning supplies in an attempt to cover up the crime.

Authorities later executed a search warrant at the home, where they discovered human remains in freshly disturbed soil—matching details uncovered during the investigation.

Averett was taken into custody without incident and is now being held at the Bay County Jail on a murder charge.

Officials say the investigation is still ongoing as more details continue to emerge in what has become a deeply disturbing case.
