Dad Finds Stranger Sleeping in His Son’s Bed in Terrifying Incident

An Oklahoma father got the shock of his life after his young son woke him up with a chilling claim—there was a man sleeping in his bed.

At first, Josh Hodnik thought his 11-year-old was confused or imagining things. But when he went to check, he couldn’t believe what he saw.

A grown man was actually lying in his son’s bed.

“I was shocked,” Hodnik said. “There was a man in there—with his own blanket, one sock on, no shoes.”

Police say the suspect, identified as 46-year-old Charles Bradford, had broken into the Oklahoma City home early that morning. Officers were called to the scene and arrested him shortly after.

Before police arrived, Hodnik said he confronted the intruder himself—pulling him out of the bedroom and into the living room, where things turned physical.

“I did what I had to do,” he said, adding that his main concern was protecting his children. “He could have done something to my kids while they were asleep.”

Thankfully, neither of Hodnik’s children were harmed.

The father later realized the front door may have been left unlocked after his kids had been playing outside the night before—a detail he now deeply regrets.

“I wish I would have checked,” he said. “But we shouldn’t have to live in a world where someone can just walk into your home like that.”

Bradford now faces multiple charges, including first-degree burglary, trespassing, and assault. He remains in custody on a $75,000 bond.

What makes the case even more disturbing is Bradford’s history. Records show he previously served time for manslaughter after killing a cellmate, along with multiple assault-related charges.

He had recently been placed in a mental health treatment program following another assault case, but officials say his future in that program is now under review after this latest incident.

Authorities say Bradford has struggled with mental illness for years, often involving violent encounters when he is off medication. The treatment program was intended to stabilize him and address those underlying issues.

Still, for Hodnik, the situation is simple.

“He doesn’t need to be out on the street,” he said. “I understand he has issues—but he came into my house and got in my kid’s bed. That’s something I’ll never forget.”
