A disturbing scene inside a Pennsylvania Walmart has led to serious charges after a mother allegedly attacked her young child in front of stunned shoppers.
Police say 27-year-old Samantha Fletcher is accused of violently handling her child while inside a store in Tullytown, with witnesses describing behavior that quickly turned alarming.
Officers were called to the Walmart on March 14 for a welfare check after someone reported a woman screaming at her children and acting erratically.
According to police, one witness said Fletcher appeared to be under the influence and was dragging a crying child across the floor by a backpack leash.
The situation escalated from there.
Investigators say Fletcher picked the child up and dropped him into a shopping cart, causing him to hit his head. Moments later, they allege she repeatedly slammed the child in and out of the cart multiple times.
At some point, the boy lost consciousness.
When officers arrived, they found Fletcher still inside the store—holding the unresponsive child in her arms.
Paramedics rushed the child to the hospital, where doctors determined he had suffered a serious concussion.
Another child was also present but was not physically harmed.
Authorities later arrested Fletcher, charging her with aggravated assault, child endangerment, reckless endangerment, and simple assault.
Child protective services were notified, and the children were released to their father.
Fletcher is currently being held on bail and is expected to appear in court next month.
