A Florida homeowner had a terrifying showdown with would-be burglars when they tried to break into his family home — leaving one intruder dead and three still on the run.
The incident unfolded around 7 p.m. Saturday in Kendall, Florida, when a stranger was spotted on the porch and three others were in the yard, according to local reports. The homeowner told NBC 6 South Florida that he first heard his mother scream, “Get off my porch, I’m going to call 911,” which sent him frantically searching for his gun.
When the intruders refused to leave and tried to force their way inside, the homeowner opened fire, hitting one of the men twice. Three of the suspects fled the scene, while the fourth, struck in the torso, was taken to a hospital and later died.
Home security footage captured the gunfire and the panicked screams that followed. The homeowner explained, “I wasn’t trying to kill him, but when he barged in, I was scared for my life. Not only for my life, I was scared for my mom.”
Though shaken by the events, the homeowner expressed no regrets for defending his family but admitted the trauma will stay with him for a long time. “I wish it was all a bad dream. Like this is a nightmare,” he said. “I’m going to need years and years of therapy. Worst night of my life. I wish it never happened.”
Authorities continue to search for the three remaining suspects.
