A wild video shows a drunk Arizona judge caught urinating in public while her husband, a town official, was wrestled to the ground trying to intervene, officials say.
The incident unfolded around 1:30 a.m. on October 4 in Prescott, when Yavapai County Superior Court Judge Pro Tempore Kristyne Schaaf-Olson, 42, was seen scrambling out of shrubbery as police arrived. Witnesses had called authorities after spotting her urinating in public.
Body camera footage shows the judge so intoxicated she couldn’t even spell her own name. When confronted, she pointed out that she was a judge, prompting an officer to tell her, “This is disgusting” and “This is unacceptable.”
The situation escalated when Schaaf-Olson’s husband, Jason Olson, the parks and recreation manager for the Town of Chino Valley, tried to pull his wife away. He repeatedly ignored police orders to step back, leading officers to wrestle him to the ground. “I’m going to throw you on the ground if you resist,” an officer warned before taking action. Olson was later cited for resisting arrest, obstructing a crime scene investigation, and interfering with government operations. He is due in court on November 18.

Meanwhile, Schaaf-Olson was cited for public urination. She resigned from her post as Judge Pro Tempore two days later, citing personal, medical, and family circumstances. In a statement, she said she wanted to ensure the Yavapai community has judges fully committed to serving the county.
Presiding Judge John Napper expressed respect for her decision, while her replacement will be appointed by the Chief Justice of the Arizona Supreme Court and approved by local leaders. Schaaf-Olson also self-reported to the Arizona Commission on Judicial Conduct, which is investigating the matter.
The judge had been appointed in October 2023, and her final day on the bench is Friday.
