Newly released police bodycam footage shows the teenage boy who fatally stabbed a 12-year-old in England allegedly lying to officers moments after the attack.

On Tuesday, Feb. 10, 15-year-old Kian Moulton was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Leo Ross, 12, who was attacked while walking home from school in Birmingham last January.

According to West Midlands Police, Moulton will serve a minimum of 13 years in custody following the sentencing at Birmingham Crown Court.

Authorities have said there is no evidence the two boys knew each other before the fatal encounter.

Detective Inspector Joe Davenport, who led the investigation, previously described the killing as a “tragic and random act of violence.”

“There is no indication Leo and the defendant knew one another — this appears to have been a totally random attack,” Davenport said.

Investigators believe Moulton was riding a bicycle in the area at the time of the killing. CCTV footage reportedly captured him circling the neighborhood before the attack. Police say he discarded the knife in nearby bushes and then asked a passerby to call 999.

In the bodycam footage, Moulton can allegedly be seen telling officers that he had simply discovered Leo lying injured in Trittiford Mill Park.

Leo later died from his injuries, prompting a homicide investigation.
