An Oklahoma couple has pleaded guilty after authorities say they tried to sell their six-month-old baby to a stranger at a campground in exchange for beer, then demanded $1,000 for the child.
The disturbing incident unfolded at Beaver Lake Hide-A-Way Campground in Rogers, where witnesses contacted police after hearing the parents were attempting to give away their infant for a six-pack of beer. According to court records, the situation quickly escalated into what investigators described as a bizarre and dangerous attempt at an illegal adoption.
The baby’s father, Darien Urban, 22, pleaded guilty to one count of attempted acceptance of compensation for adoption. A judge sentenced him to three years in jail, followed by a suspended three-year sentence.
The child’s mother, Shalene Ehlers, 21, pleaded guilty to attempting to accept compensation and to endangering the welfare of a child. She was placed on six years of state-supervised probation and will avoid a criminal record if she completes it without violations.
Charging documents reveal that a handwritten contract was allegedly drawn up at the campsite. The document stated that the parents were signing over their rights to their baby for $1,000, included a date, and warned there would be no contact afterward. Witnesses told police they even recorded the parents signing the agreement.
According to investigators, the incident began when Ehlers reportedly asked other campers for beer, something witnesses said she did frequently. After being turned down, another man at the campground allegedly offered beer in exchange for keeping the baby overnight. Police say the parents agreed and handed over the infant along with a diaper bag.
The baby was later brought to another camper, where a second man allegedly discussed paying the parents $1,000 for the child. Although no money had yet changed hands, investigators say the arrangement placed the baby in serious danger.
A detective wrote in the affidavit that the parents created a substantial risk of death or serious injury by abandoning their infant with an intoxicated stranger and then attempting to transfer custody to someone they barely knew.
The baby was ultimately recovered safely, and authorities emphasized that the case could have ended far worse without intervention from witnesses who spoke up.

Why don’t the judge just sell these two .They have kids just for money
They both need to be sterilized so they cant have any more kids.
