A Wisconsin teenager has been convicted of killing his own uncle after a late-night argument over a sleepover spiraled into deadly violence.

Ronnie Fuentez was found guilty Thursday of felony murder caused by battery in the death of 46-year-old Adam Thompson, according to Waukesha County court records. He was also convicted of misdemeanor bail jumping.

Prosecutors said the fatal confrontation began on Feb. 1, 2025, inside the apartment the two shared on Delafield Street in Waukesha, just west of Milwaukee. Fuentez, who was 17 at the time, had been living with his uncle for about four years.

That night, the pair reportedly argued around 10 p.m. because Fuentez wanted a friend to sleep over. Thompson told him no and said the friend needed to go home. According to court documents, that’s when Fuentez became enraged and punched his uncle in the head with a closed fist.

Thompson told investigators he punched back in self-defense, then raised his arms to protect his head as Fuentez allegedly continued hitting him while yelling insults.

After the fight, Fuentez left the apartment and did not return until the next morning.

At first, Thompson didn’t think he was seriously hurt and did not call police. But two days later, he developed a severe migraine. Over-the-counter medication provided little relief.

On Feb. 5, while speaking on the phone with his mother, Thompson began struggling to form complete sentences. Concerned he might be having a stroke, she rushed to his home and drove him to Waukesha Memorial Hospital.

Doctors soon discovered he had suffered an internal brain bleed. He was admitted to the intensive care unit.

Although he was having trouble speaking, Thompson was still able to tell authorities what had happened. A responding officer learned that Fuentez had punched him multiple times in the head.

Originally charged with battery, Fuentez’s case escalated to murder after Thompson died on Feb. 17, 2025.

Court records also indicate that Fuentez was out on bond at the time of the attack for an unrelated case.

Thompson’s obituary described him as an avid gamer and reptile enthusiast who loved his dog, Boy, and cherished time with his family.

Fuentez is scheduled to be sentenced on April 27.
