A California man has been found guilty in the brutal killing of his teenage ex-girlfriend after a case that shocked the community.

Vicente Jasso, 23, was convicted of murder with special circumstances, including kidnapping and robbery, in the 2023 death of 19-year-old Melanie Camacho. A jury in Madera County returned the guilty verdict, and Jasso now faces life in prison.

Camacho was last seen leaving her job at an AutoZone in Madera around 10:15 p.m. on November 24, 2023. Shortly after, she texted her mom saying she planned to meet a friend—but she never made it home.

When she was reported missing the next morning, police quickly launched a search. Within hours, her car was discovered burned, raising immediate red flags.

Investigators later learned the “friend” she planned to meet wasn’t actually a friend at all—but her ex-boyfriend.

Authorities say Jasso and Camacho had recently broken up just days before Thanksgiving. Detectives soon zeroed in on him as their primary suspect.

The case took a dramatic turn when police spotted Jasso driving the next morning. When officers tried to pull him over, he took off—sparking a high-speed chase that reportedly hit speeds over 100 mph.

During the pursuit, police say he tossed Camacho’s belongings out of the window, including her driver’s license.

The chase finally ended when spike strips blew out his tires. Jasso tried to run but was quickly tracked down and arrested with the help of a police helicopter.

Meanwhile, a second suspect, identified as Jasso’s friend, later led investigators to a remote orchard where Camacho’s body was found days after she vanished.

That accomplice later pleaded guilty to being an accessory and has already served time.

Jasso’s past also came under scrutiny during the case, with reports of prior arrests involving domestic violence and other offenses.

He is expected to be sentenced in the coming weeks.

What started as a late-night plan to meet someone ended in a tragic and deadly betrayal—one that has now finally led to justice.
