A horrifying case out of Germany is drawing outrage after three members of the same family were arrested on suspicion of carrying out weeks of brutal abuse against a woman who had been living in their home and helping with chores.
Authorities say the alleged victim, a 32-year-old woman, had been staying with the family and doing cleaning work as well as helping in the garden. But prosecutors now believe that arrangement turned into something deeply disturbing.
According to senior public prosecutor Christian Wolters, the family is accused of abusing the woman in a domestic setting over a period of weeks. Arrest warrants were issued for a 62-year-old mother, her 28-year-old daughter, and the mother’s 49-year-old husband on suspicion of dangerous bodily harm.
The arrests reportedly took place over the weekend in Salzgitter, in Lower Saxony.
What investigators are now looking into is deeply disturbing.
Reports say the abuse is believed to have begun in late 2025 and continued until mid-March, when the woman finally came forward. Authorities say she was not physically held captive and was technically free to leave, but prosecutors are investigating claims that she was repeatedly attacked and punished inside the home.
According to reports citing legal documents, the woman was allegedly assaulted when she was late for work or accused of not cleaning well enough. Investigators are now looking into claims that she was forced to pull out her own teeth with a wrench on more than one occasion.
The allegations get even more horrifying from there.
The woman also allegedly suffered beatings with a baseball bat, burns to her stomach with a Bunsen burner, and one especially shocking act in which her tongue was allegedly nailed to a board. Prosecutors say some of the alleged abuse may have even been recorded on camera.
Authorities also say the 49-year-old man in the home has prior convictions for rape and aggravated assault, and he is suspected of filming some of the incidents now under investigation.
Prosecutors are being careful as the case develops, but they have made clear the allegations are extremely serious.
Wolters said investigators currently believe the woman’s claims appear credible, while also stressing that the case is still in its early stages and everything must be verified through the investigation.
Neighbors have also spoken out, describing what they allegedly saw over time.
One reportedly said they could visibly see the woman’s physical condition getting worse. Another claimed they heard her being screamed at outside the home over accusations that she had not cleaned properly and noticed she appeared to be losing more and more teeth.
According to reports, the case finally came to police attention after the woman confided in a friend about what had allegedly been happening inside the house.
