A Queens father of two was beaten to death with a baseball bat during a horrifying road-rage confrontation while driving home from work at JFK Airport, according to police and his devastated family.
Crisanie Dockery, 47, was traveling with a coworker on the Belt Parkway at around 1:10 a.m. Sunday when he became involved in a dispute with another driver.
The confrontation reportedly began after a minor crash, but quickly escalated into deadly violence.
Dockery was struck repeatedly with a bat and left unconscious on the side of the highway near Exit 21B at Farmers Boulevard. His 39-year-old coworker suffered minor injuries.
Dockery was rushed to Jamaica Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The attacker fled the scene and remained on the loose as police continued searching for clues.
“How can you take him away from his children, his family?” Dockery’s sister, Marsha Dockery, said. “It’s so unnecessary. It could have been dealt with so differently.”
Dockery, who was originally from Jamaica, worked as a ramp agent at JFK Airport. He was married and had two sons, ages 21 and 13.
His family said he had been working to arrange for his wife to move to New York and join the family.
Speaking outside the family’s home in St. Albans, Marsha said her brother had been driving home from work when the deadly confrontation unfolded.
“Apparently there was a minor accident and the occupants came out and there was some sort of altercation and he was bludgeoned,” she said.
She described her brother as friendly, outgoing and easy to approach.
“He was such an outgoing person, a friendly person, someone who you could approach with just about anything,” she said.
The family had not yet told Dockery’s 13-year-old son about his father’s death Sunday night. His older son had been informed and was said to be distraught.
Marsha pleaded with anyone who may have witnessed the attack or recorded it to contact police.
“We are hoping that someone who sees something comes forward,” she said.
Police have not released a description of the suspected attacker or provided additional details about the events leading up to the fatal assault.
The investigation remains ongoing.
