A Georgia man allegedly came up with an unusual plan to get out of paying his Red Lobster bill — by calling 911 and pretending he was having a medical emergency.
Police say Abdul Hakeem Rasheed, 26, was dining at a Red Lobster in Douglasville on Sept. 24 when the situation took an unexpected turn.
According to an arrest affidavit, Rasheed allegedly called 911 and reported a medical problem while he was still inside the restaurant.
But when officers arrived, they determined he was medically fine.
Investigators say the emergency call was actually part of an attempt to avoid paying his dinner bill.
The total?
$63.77.
The affidavit alleges Rasheed used deception during the 911 call with the intent of avoiding payment for the meal.
Rather than walking away with a free dinner, he ended up in jail.
Rasheed was arrested and booked into the Douglas County Jail on charges of theft of services and unlawful conduct during a 911 call.
Local reporting said the incident happened at the Red Lobster on Highway 5 in Douglasville.
Police said officers responding to the call quickly realized there was no genuine medical emergency.
Authorities have not released additional details about what Rasheed ordered, what exactly he told the 911 dispatcher or whether restaurant employees became suspicious before officers arrived.
