A Las Vegas man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after admitting he killed his girlfriend in a brutal attack that was witnessed by his own grandmother.
Brandon Tenorio, 42, was sentenced by Chief District Judge Tierra Jones after reaching a plea deal with prosecutors and pleading guilty to the first-degree murder of his girlfriend, 36-year-old Kourtney Glover.
The killing happened on Dec. 20, 2023, inside a home in the 3500 block of Mountain Valley Drive, near Fort Apache Road and Gowan Road in Las Vegas.
When police arrived, they found what authorities described as a horrifying scene.
Investigators said there was blood throughout the home. Officers also found a bloody hammer in a downstairs bathroom and three bloody knives in the kitchen.
Glover was found unresponsive at the bottom of a staircase.
Neighbors had called 911 around 7:58 p.m. after hearing disturbing noises coming from the home.
Tenorio’s grandmother, who lived there and had been sleeping upstairs, told police she woke up after hearing a loud thud.
When she went downstairs to see what had happened, she said she saw Tenorio standing over Glover and repeatedly striking her in the head with a hammer.
The grandmother tried to intervene and pull Tenorio away from Glover, but police said he pushed the elderly woman to the floor.
She then tried to escape through the garage.
According to investigators, Tenorio caught up with her and dragged her back inside the house.
While pulling her back in, police said Tenorio told his grandmother, “I’m not going to kill you.”
She eventually managed to escape a second time and ran to a neighbor’s home, where she called 911.
When officers arrived, Tenorio reportedly walked outside with blood on his hands and raised them in the air.
“I did it. I killed her, she is dead, she is inside,” he allegedly told police.
During questioning, Tenorio told investigators he had been hearing voices that told him to “kill or be killed.”
He also said he became suspicious after seeing a gas truck outside the home and then seeing Glover flash a light outside, which he interpreted as some kind of signal.
Police said Glover tried to flee and fell down the stairs during the attack.
Tenorio then allegedly stabbed her multiple times with a kitchen knife in the stomach, neck and back.
Investigators said Tenorio told them that after stabbing Glover, he stopped and smoked a cigarette.
The case ultimately ended in a plea agreement, with Tenorio admitting responsibility for Glover’s killing.
Judge Jones sentenced him to 20 years in prison.
