Mom Accused of Murdering Husband and Daughter Before Setting Home on Fire

A West Virginia woman has been arrested nearly a year after investigators say her husband and 21-year-old daughter were found dead inside the family’s burning home — and police now allege the fire was deliberately set after both victims had already died.

Nicole Ellen Taylor, 55, of Harpers Ferry, was taken into custody Sept. 22 following an investigation that stretched for almost a full year.

She is charged with first-degree murder, first-degree arson and using or presenting a firearm during the commission of a felony.

The case began on the morning of Sept. 30, 2025, when emergency crews were called to a home on Blackberry Lane in Harpers Ferry.

By the time authorities arrived, the house was heavily engulfed in flames.

Taylor managed to escape the burning home, but she suffered serious burn injuries and had to be flown by medical helicopter to a regional burn center.

Inside the home, investigators made a grim discovery.

Taylor’s husband, Robert Hayne Taylor III, 56, and their daughter, Cynthia Allison Taylor, 21, were both found dead.

At first, the fire appeared to be the most obvious explanation for what had happened.

But investigators soon uncovered something much darker.

Authorities say both Robert and Cynthia were already dead before the fire started.

Robert had also been shot multiple times.

Police have not publicly disclosed Cynthia’s cause of death.

That discovery turned what initially looked like a deadly house fire into a homicide and arson investigation.

West Virginia State Police, the State Fire Marshal’s Office and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives spent months examining the scene and gathering evidence.

Investigators eventually concluded that the blaze had been intentionally set.

Police now allege Taylor was connected to her husband’s shooting death and the fire that followed.

Authorities have not released a motive or explained exactly what they believe happened to Cynthia before the house was set ablaze.

That remains one of the biggest unanswered questions in the case.

Taylor was arrested almost one year after the deaths and arraigned on the new charges.

She is being held in the Eastern Regional Jail without bond.
