A Texas case that initially appeared to be a murder-suicide has taken a shocking turn after investigators determined two women found shot to death inside an apartment were actually victims of a double homicide.
The bodies were discovered Sept. 23 at an apartment complex in the 3400 block of Shoreline Drive in the Wells Branch area of Travis County.
A property manager told authorities they noticed the apartment door was ajar while performing management duties. After announcing themselves and getting no response, the manager pushed the door open, saw a body and called 911.
When deputies arrived, they found two women dead from gunshot wounds.
The victims were later identified as 37-year-old Anecia Kay Thacker and 32-year-old Lamonica Webb, both of Austin.
At first, investigators said the deaths appeared to be a murder-suicide.
Authorities had not received reports of gunshots, a disturbance or anything else suspicious before the women were discovered, and deputies initially said they did not believe there was an ongoing threat to the public.
But detectives continued processing the apartment — and what they found changed the direction of the case.
The Travis County Sheriff’s Office now says evidence recovered from the scene showed that the women were both homicide victims.
Investigators identified 24-year-old Michael Robinson of Mississippi as a person of interest and said they believed he had been inside the apartment around the time of the shootings.
Robinson was located and taken into custody on Friday, Sept. 25.
He has since been charged with capital murder in connection with both deaths.
Authorities have not publicly revealed what evidence allegedly connected Robinson to the killings or disclosed a possible motive.
Travis County Sheriff Sally Hernandez credited investigators and crime scene specialists with uncovering evidence that changed what initially appeared to be a murder-suicide into a double-homicide investigation.
“Our crime scene specialists carefully processed the evidence, and detectives quickly connected it to a suspect,” Hernandez said.
