Surveillance video released by the Houston Police Department shows a man entering the lobby of an area hotel around 7 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 16. He can be seen pulling a rifle out of a bag and fumbling to prepare it before approaching the counter.
The suspect points the rifle at the clerk and demands money from the cash drawer, and she can be heard saying “OK.”
The video then shows the man climbing up onto the counter, and video from another angle shows the clerk backing away from the open cash drawer.
“There it is,” she says, followed by what sounds like, “I’m coming.” The man suddenly backs away without taking any money and flees.
Police say the suspect was scared off when the employee pointed her own gun at him. The suspect is described as a Black male, 20–25 years old with a thin build, standing between 6’2” and 6’4” and weighing 150–180 pounds.
Police are asking anyone with information to come forward or submit an anonymous tip.
