A Utah man was arrested for setting his girlfriend’s vehicles on fire and blaming the blazes on his son in an attempt to send him to prison, according to a report.

David James, 55, was charged with arson and obstruction of justice after torching his girlfriend’s two cars on Dec. 17, FOX 13 reported.

James told police that his son was the culprit behind the fires in Springville. Officers said no evidence points to his son’s involvement.

Several witnesses told investigators that James had said that he set both cars on fire because he wanted to put his son in prison, according to FOX 13.

While in custody, the man was still insisting that it was his son who had started the blaze.

He is being held in the Utah County jail.
