A North Carolina teen could face the death penalty for allegedly killing a police officer who attempted to stop him from stealing beer.
Three suspects were charged Tuesday in connection to the fatal shooting of the officer, according to local news outlet WRAL.
Of the three, Jamere Foster, 18, is facing the heaviest possible sentence for first-degree murder of Greensboro officer Sergeant Philip Dale Nix.
Foster is accused of shooting and killing Nix on Dec. 30, after authorities say he confronted Foster for stealing five cases (or around $83) worth of beer.
Foster was trying to steal about $230 in beer from a Guilford County Sheetz but made off with only those five cases, according to the warrant for his arrest.
The district attorney said Nix was off-duty but had his badge and gun with him when the burglary took place.
John Walter Morrison, 28, and Zquriah Lepearce Blackwell, 18, are also charged with felony accessory after the fact.
Although Nix was off duty at the time of the incident, Greensboro City Council Member Zach Methany said first responders, like Nix, are never off duty.

The three suspects appeared in court via Zoom on Tuesday, where a judge explained Foster’s rights and the maximum sentences for his charges.
Judge Tabatha Holiday called Foster a danger to the community noting that he would remain in custody until a later hearing that would determine whether or not the state would pursue the death penalty.
“Don’t say anything else; please don’t say anything,” she said. “At this point, you’re presumed innocent. That’s the way our justice system works, and that’s where we stand today.”
According to WRAL, Foster and Blackwell have no prior convictions but Morrison has five in Forsyth County – two of which are felonies.
All three suspects are due back in court again on April 2.

Makes me wonder about the parents or parent that raised these kids, apparently they did an awful job. Now the one that killed this officer should get the death penalty. Such a stupid thing to do for for stealing beer, they would have been out already had they just stopped and listened to him. If the other kids are under 18 they should also start holding these worthless parents accountable maybe then things would change.
