A medical assistant at an urgent care facility in Pennsylvania is accused of posing as a nurse while performing sexually-related exams and hitting on at least two patients, according to authorities.
On March 1, police open an investigation into 33-year-old Ramon Garcia after a woman reported an odd encounter with a worker named “Ramon” as she underwent a pre-employment drug screening, the Abington Police Department said.
Garcia told the woman she needed to urinate into a cup but was randomly selected to “be observed” and he watched, officials said.
After the urine sample was collected, Garcia allegedly gave the woman his phone number and “asked if she would go on a date with him,” police said.
While police were investigating this first incident, a second woman came forward with allegations that she was touched inappropriately during an exam on March 9 at the same urgent care facility, authorities said.
The woman told investigators that Garcia introduced himself at the front desk as “Ramon” and said he was a nurse.
In the exam room, Garcia told the woman to undress and then put on latex gloves and performed a pelvic exam, according to police.
Later on, Garcia then helped the woman take off her pants again and “started touching her again,” police said. The woman told Garcia “no” as he moved his head towards her pelvic area.
According to police, Garcia made verbal advances, asking if the victim was in a relationship, and if she had any fantasies. Police said he also gave the woman his phone number before she left the office.
Garcia’s job duties reportedly included signing in patients, taking vital signs and, if directed by a doctor, taking blood samples. According to authorities he is not a licensed nurse and should not have been undressing patients, conducting examinations or observing urine tests.
On March 11, officers arrested Garcia while he worked at Carbon Health Urgent Care in Jenkintown.
He was charged with aggravated indecent assault and invasion of privacy, officials said. He was booked into jail and was being held on a $99,000 bond.
In a statement, Carbon Health said, “We were made aware today of serious allegations regarding sexual misconduct against a Medical Assistant at our Jenkintown, PA location. We were shocked by these allegations. We can share that this individual is no longer employed at Carbon Health. We are fully cooperating with law enforcement and other relevant authorities.”
Police believe there may be more victims.
