A Michigan teen has been charged with the murder of a transgender woman who was shot and killed on the first day of Pride Month last year.
Ashia Davis, 36, was found dead in a Highland Park hotel on June 1, 2023, with a single gunshot wound to her head. A transgender woman of color, Davis is believed to be the 12th trans, nonbinary, or gender-nonconforming person to die by violence last year, and one of 35 violent deaths overall for the year.
Carlos Lamar Scotland, 18, was charged Friday with first-degree murder, felony firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, and resisting and obstructing a police officer for the incident and arrest. While Scotland was only 17 at the time of the murder, Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said he would be tried as an adult.
“Ms. Davis was a transgender woman of color who was murdered on the first day of Pride Month on June 1, 2023,” Worthy said in a statement. “She was beloved in her community and was known to be a generous and compassionate person according to her family and many friends. It is alleged that the defendant shot and killed her. At the time of her death, she had recently completed nursing school and was going to start a new job when her life was tragically cut short.”

Highland Park Police were called to a hotel just after 11 p.m. on June 1 to investigate a report of gunshots. Once there they found Davis dead in her room.
Prosecutors allege Scotland killed Davis with a handgun and then fled the scene.
Timestamps on the hotel’s security video from the night of the murder show a teen or young man believed to be Scotland walking across the hotel’s interior courtyard parking lot at 10:57 p.m. and then entering Davis’s room a minute later. The same person can be seen running from the room at 11:16 p.m., according to the video’s timestamp.
Scotland was arraigned Friday before Judge Brigette Officer Holley in the 30th District Court. He has a probable cause conference scheduled for March 26.

If they think that Trans is right, then they should be willing to die for the cause.
With the statistics of transgender murders on the rise, plus Suicides for the Transgender populations being the highest numbers in the Country, Parents or Anyone even considering going that route needs to think STRONGLY about the ugly circumstances surrounding that particular group of people BEFORE choosing to become a trans person!!!
As this article shows, there are many people who cannot accept any person changing their sex characteristics that they were born with (FYI: the DNA in each cell will always read their biological sex and can NEVER be changed) — and like this young teenager, felt the need to destroy that abnormal individual. I would never want any loved one to foolishly choose that bizarre lifestyle without understanding that their choice can drive other people to do harm to them! AND, that a huge percentage of trans people find out that after going through all the surgeries/hormones, they still have the emotional and mental issues they had before transitioning—and being confused and isolated, trans kids choose Suicide!
If Parents/Therapists do not inform kids or youths of the dangers of choosing a trans life BEFORE a young person chooses to transition, we will be seeing more and more young lives being cut short by murder and/or Suicide! Is that what our American Society wants? If so, humanity is doomed by its own IGNORANCE!

My guess is that young teen boy had decided to end the trans person’s life “before” he entered the trans person’s apartment. Why? Because he was in and out of that apt in less than 20 minutes and arrived with a gun.
There are many people that do not agree with a trans person’s life style and look upon them as being evil or abnormal, so they try to harm them. Such is the case of this young teenager. Something forced him to end that trans person’s life whether he knew them or not. Between people like this teen boy and the huge numbers of trans suicide, being a trans person really needs to be weighed heavily because we are now seeing that some people refuse to allow them to live.
The LGTBQ community has its issues and has struggled to survive, but what is happening to young trans people is truly alarming and parents/therapists MUST COUNSEL these young people so they understand all concepts of their choice!
And, after seeing the numbers of trans people being killed, anyone choosing that lifestyle is going to have to be constantly looking over their shoulders in order to stay alive! So scary for them. Also, sadly, If someone doesn’t harm them, in less than five years a huge percentage of young trans people take their own lives. Why? Because by that time, all their biological friends have dropped away because they don’t recognize their friend any more and also some family members have left for the same reason. At that point, the isolation is overwhelming and most young people choose to end their existence instead of being isolated and alone.
It is very alarming that trans people are being killed. Is that our Society refusing that bizarre lifestyle? Maybe this is one lifestyle that the majority of normal people do NOT understand nor do they want to understand it? I don’t know the answer to this. But I do know that it should be a law that each potential trans person MUST BE COUNSELED BY A PROFESSIONAL THERAPIST “BEFORE” going through any physical sex changes! That person needs to thoroughly understand ALL CONCEPTS of what could happen in the future. These young people need to know the honest truth about how people may react to them — good actions AND bad actions so they can make a better choice about their life!
I believe he is being “Tried as an adult” because it was Premeditated Murder — he went there to kill the trans person — which he did in less than 20 minutes and was gone! Sad…for the trans person and for the kid!
