A quiet Monday evening turned into a nightmare at a McDonald’s in Mississippi when a young mother was shot and killed in what police are calling a domestic incident that played out in front of stunned witnesses — including children.
Kianna Jackson, 25, was gunned down inside the fast food restaurant on Stribling Lane in Brandon, just outside of Jackson, on June 16. Her alleged killer, 27-year-old Jhonterryes Dampier, then turned the gun on himself.
Brandon Police Chief Joseph French confirmed that Jackson was found dead at the scene from a gunshot wound. Dampier, who was rushed to the hospital with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, died two days later on June 18.
According to the Daily Mail, Jackson and Dampier shared two young children — a 5-year-old daughter and a 3-year-old son.
“This was a horrible incident,” Brandon Mayor Butch Lee told local outlet WJTV. “It’s even more tragic when a domestic situation like this happens in front of children. Our prayers go out to everyone connected to those involved.”
The terrifying scene unfolded just before 7 p.m., sending shockwaves through the community and devastating the family Jackson left behind.
“She was a cherished mother,” her relatives wrote on a GoFundMe set up to cover funeral costs and support her children. “She also was a beloved daughter, sister and friend.” The page has raised over $15,000 of its $22,000 goal.
The McDonald’s where the deadly shooting occurred is operated by O’Ferrall Management Group, who issued a statement expressing their grief.
“We are deeply saddened by this tragic incident, and our thoughts and prayers are with the victims’ family and loved ones,” the company said. “We’re providing support to our restaurant employees and will continue to assist law enforcement with their ongoing investigation.”
