A Pennsylvania father and construction worker is fighting to recover after losing part of his leg in a devastating hit-and-run crash along a Massachusetts highway — and police are still hunting for the driver who left him bleeding on the road.
David Wachinski, a dad of two, was working overnight on a construction project on Interstate 95 in Foxboro, Massachusetts, when he was struck around 2:15 a.m. Monday, according to Massachusetts State Police.
Wachinski had been setting up a sign along the highway when a speeding driver slammed into him, ripping the side-view mirror off their vehicle before taking off.
He was rushed to Boston Medical Center with catastrophic injuries. Doctors were forced to amputate part of his leg, though it’s unclear if the damage occurred at impact or during surgery.
His wife, sister-in-law, and other relatives drove from Pennsylvania to be by his side as he undergoes a long recovery.
“It was scary. You don’t know too much, you don’t know what’s going to happen next. He fought and is still fighting to survive,” his sister-in-law, Mina Thompson, told CBS News.
Thompson described Wachinski as a devoted family man and a hard worker. “A lot of people love him. A lot of people appreciate him. He could have just been gone,” she said, urging the driver to come forward. “Someone knows something. Whether it’s them who did hit him and they’re scared, or they told a family member — please, say something.”
Investigators recovered a passenger-side mirror from the scene and are working to trace it back to the vehicle involved.
“The impact of his injuries illustrates the danger of failing to drive with care in and around work zones,” state police said in a statement, calling the crash “senseless.”
Thompson pleaded for the driver to turn themselves in. “It’s never too late to say, ‘Hey, I messed up and I want to come forward.’ What gets done in darkness will come out to light,” she told CBS News.
A GoFundMe created for Wachinski’s family describes him as “a devoted husband and the proud father of two amazing boys.” The fundraiser aims to help cover medical expenses, travel costs, and lost income as the family adjusts to life after the tragedy.

Massachusetts….
the most liberal, corrupt state in the country. What a joke!!
