Two Florida teenagers have been charged with murder after police say they lured a 14-year-old girl into the woods, shot her, and then set her body on fire.
Sixteen-year-old Gabriel Williams and 14-year-old Kimahri Blevins were arrested Wednesday and charged with first-degree premeditated murder in the killing of Danika Troy. Her burned remains were discovered days earlier in a wooded area in Pace, Florida.
According to arrest reports obtained by Law&Crime, a witness told investigators that the boys plotted to kill Danika after she allegedly insulted Williams on social media and blocked Blevins during Thanksgiving break.
Danika was reported missing Monday morning by her mother, who last saw her at 10 p.m. the night before. She told police she also noticed her daughter’s electric scooter was gone.
A day later, a passerby discovered a body in the woods. Responding deputies found evidence of a fire, several live rounds of ammunition, and a charred body. A shoe at the scene matched what Danika had been wearing, and police also found what they believed to be her scooter.
On Wednesday, the remains were officially identified as Danika’s. During the investigation, a witness claimed Blevins admitted that he and Williams “planned the murder,” saying the original idea was to shoot her once — but Williams allegedly escalated the attack. Police say the teens then burned her body.
Detectives interviewed Blevins after his mother let them speak with him. He denied seeing Danika recently and claimed they’d simply had a falling out on social media, but when asked about the woods, he immediately asked for an attorney. His mother later told detectives she caught him sneaking back into the house around 11 p.m. on Sunday and that his explanation didn’t make sense.
Police then questioned Williams, who said Danika had made “hurtful comments,” calling him “worthless” and a “gang-banger.” During a press conference, Santa Rosa County Sheriff Bob Johnson said the supposed motive doesn’t match the forensics or the facts of the case. He added that Williams stole his mother’s handgun before the shooting and described the relationship among the teenagers as “friends, supposedly.”
Both Blevins and Williams are being held at the Santa Rosa Juvenile Detention Center without bond, charged with first-degree premeditated murder.
