A Florida husband has been charged after a late-night golf cart accident in their upscale Nocatee community left his wife fatally injured.
Police say 58-year-old Christina Theodosiou died after falling from a golf cart driven by her husband, 64-year-old Angelo Theodosiou, on November 30. The couple lived in Nocatee, a luxury master-planned neighborhood just outside Jacksonville where residents often use golf carts to get around. Homes there range from $550,000 to more than $2 million, and the area is prized for its top-rated school district.
According to arrest records, deputies responded to the accident around 10:45 p.m. Christina was airlifted to Jacksonville Memorial Trauma Hospital with severe head injuries and died the following day.
Investigators noted signs they believe point to impairment, writing that Angelo’s eyes were bloodshot and watery, his pupils showed a reddened sclera, and there was a strong odor of alcohol coming from him even at a distance. Records state that Angelo initially agreed to perform a field sobriety test but later refused.
The arrest report says that after being taken into custody, Angelo repeatedly asked officers why he was being arrested. At the St. Johns County Jail, he was again asked to provide a breath sample, but deputies say he ultimately refused.
He is now facing charges of driving under the influence and refusing to submit to police testing. Angelo bonded out on December 1 and is scheduled to appear in court on January 6, 2026.
His attorney, L. Lee Lockett, says Angelo was not impaired and maintains his innocence. “He didn’t cause the accident,” Lockett told The St. Johns Citizen. “He’s heartbroken. He’s distraught. He’s depressed as can be.”
The couple’s family is also standing behind him. According to the attorney, relatives say they are devastated and supportive.
Friends described Christina and Angelo as “wonderful people” who had recently retired to Florida after years in New York, where Angelo owned a restaurant in Jackson Heights. They had settled into the Nocatee lifestyle and were said to be very happy before the tragic accident.
Nocatee sits in St. Johns County, one of the highest-income counties in the United States and a major draw for retirees and families alike. Real estate in the area is heavily marketed for its beaches, schools, and thriving year-round tourism, especially in nearby St. Augustine, known as the nation’s oldest city.
The investigation into Christina’s death is ongoing.
