A Chicago family is searching for answers after a mother of three was allegedly left to die in a crashed SUV following a hit-and-run on New Year’s Day.

Suzanna “Suzy” Marie Garcia, 38, was found alone in the passenger seat of a damaged gray GMC early Thursday morning, January 1. According to local reports, she suffered multiple injuries to her head and body and was pronounced dead after being rushed to the hospital.

Police say the crash happened around 5 a.m. in the 3400 block of East 95th Street, near the bridge over the Calumet River in Chicago. Investigators believe the SUV struck a pole, and the driver fled the scene, leaving Garcia behind.

Authorities noted that the vehicle had heavy front-end damage, was facing the opposite direction of travel, and had a deployed airbag on the passenger side. Surveillance footage from a nearby business reportedly shows the SUV crossing the road before slamming into the pole.

Garcia’s family says the most painful part is believing she may have survived if the driver had stayed and called for help.

“The person that was with her really left the scene,” her father, Ascension Andrade, said. “It just doesn’t add up.”

Her mother, Maricela Andrade, echoed that heartbreak, saying Garcia might still be alive today if aid had arrived sooner. “Maybe she would’ve had a chance,” she said. “She was a good daughter, a loving mother. Everybody loved her.”

No arrests have been made, and police have not confirmed the identity of the driver. The Chicago Police Department continues to investigate the crash.

Garcia’s aunt, Arcelia Pimentel, said the family is struggling with unanswered questions. “Part of our anguish is not knowing why they left her there,” she said. “We may never have complete closure, but answers would ease the pain.”

Her father has issued a direct plea to the person responsible. “Just turn yourself in,” he said. “Face the consequence.”

As the investigation continues, loved ones have rallied to honor Garcia’s life and support her children. A GoFundMe organized by family friend Joyce Gaa-Delacy has raised more than $10,000 toward funeral and family expenses.

In the fundraiser, Garcia is remembered as a devoted mother whose three children were the center of her world, a cherished daughter, and a beloved sister, aunt, and friend.
