A North Carolina teen is facing serious criminal charges after police say his excessive speed caused a devastating crash that killed a mother and her daughter just days after Christmas.
Authorities allege 18-year-old Jason Anthony Scott was behind the wheel of a speeding BMW when it slammed into another vehicle on Ardrey Kell Road in Charlotte on the evening of Saturday, Dec. 27, 2025. Officers arrived at the scene around 7:45 p.m. to find a mangled 2011 Honda CR-V and two victims unresponsive inside.
The driver, identified as Lorin Elizabeth Manley, was found slumped in the front seat. Her backseat passenger, Gloria Manley, was also unconscious. Medics pronounced both women dead at the scene.
Family members later confirmed the heartbreaking details: Lorin was a mother, and Gloria was her mother — a grandmother riding in the backseat. A 12-year-old girl, Lorin’s daughter and Gloria’s granddaughter, survived the crash but suffered multiple broken bones and a collapsed lung. She is now recovering from her injuries while grappling with an unimaginable loss.
According to a GoFundMe created by loved ones, the family had simply been returning home from a shopping trip when tragedy struck. The fundraiser explains that the young girl’s older sister is now stepping in to support her sibling through both physical recovery and profound grief after losing their mother and grandmother in an instant.
Police say Scott was driving a 2013 BMW 335i, which sustained heavy front-end damage. He was seriously injured and transported to a local hospital. Investigators noted that speed is believed to be a major factor in the crash.
Witnesses told local outlets they saw the BMW traveling at more than 100 miles per hour in a 45 mph zone shortly before the collision. Police stated that Scott was screened for impairment and was not found to be impaired. Toxicology results for Lorin Manley are still pending, though impairment is not suspected.
Scott was arrested and charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter and assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury. During a court appearance on Tuesday, a judge reportedly set his bond at $300,000, revoked his driver’s license, and ordered him not to operate a motor vehicle.
As of now, it remains unclear whether Scott has entered a plea or retained an attorney to speak publicly on his behalf.
