A shopping trip turned violent at a western New York mall after a knife fight left three women injured and two suspects behind bars.

Police say the chaos unfolded around 7:15 p.m. on February 13 at Walden Galleria in Cheektowaga, just outside Buffalo.

According to local reports, 22-year-old Lakeya Richerson and 21-year-old Joshalyn Paul — both Buffalo residents — were arrested and charged with three counts of assault and criminal possession of a weapon.

Authorities allege the two women engaged in a knife fight with three other women inside the mall. Cheektowaga Police responded quickly to the scene.

The three victims, whose names have not been released, were transported to Erie County Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Photos obtained by local media showed blood on the mall floor where the stabbing reportedly occurred, a shocking sight for shoppers who were simply out for the evening.

Richerson and Paul are currently in custody and awaiting arraignment in Cheektowaga Town Court, according to local outlets.

Walden Galleria is owned by the Pyramid Group, which said in a statement that the incident appears to be isolated and that the individuals involved allegedly knew one another.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.

For now, what began as an ordinary night at the mall has left a community shaken and searching for answers about what led to the violent confrontation.
