A quiet Ohio neighborhood is reeling after a 37-year-old mother was shot and killed inside her own home in the early hours of Monday morning.
Police say officers were dispatched around 2:30 a.m. on February 16 to the 900 block of Cunningham Court in Tipp City after receiving reports of a burglary in progress and gunfire.
When officers arrived, they found Ashley Flynn fatally wounded inside the residence. Her husband and two children were also home at the time but were not physically injured.
According to Tipp City Police Chief Greg Adkins, there were no visible signs of forced entry. However, early indications suggest Flynn may have been killed during what investigators believe was a burglary gone wrong.
Authorities quickly secured the scene and contacted family members to help care for Flynn’s husband and daughters in the immediate aftermath.
Police deployed K-9 units, a drone, and called in agents from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation to assist. As of now, no suspects have been located.
As the investigation continues, tributes have poured in from across the community.
Flynn was a volleyball coach at Tippecanoe Middle School and also worked as a substitute teacher at Lifewise Academy. Colleagues and students remember her as a bright light.
“She was known for her beautiful smile, warmth, kindness, and the positive impact she had on so many — both in and out of the classroom and on the court,” Tipp City Schools shared in a Facebook statement. “Our thoughts are with all who are grieving during this difficult time.”
Lifewise Academy also expressed heartbreak over her death, announcing a community prayer gathering in her honor.
“We are heartbroken by the passing of our teacher, Ashley Flynn,” the organization wrote. “We know God is close.”
Pastor Jordan Hansen of the Christian Life Center in Dayton described Flynn as a “beloved member” of the church.
“Devoted servant of Jesus, and wife, mom, daughter… and so many other roles she fulfilled with grace, devotion and unconditional love… was murdered in her home,” Hansen wrote. “Ashley Flynn is with Jesus. Please pray for her husband and two daughters and extended family left behind.”
Police are urging anyone with information to contact the Tipp City Police Department at 937-667-311 or the Miami County Communications Center at 937-440-9911.
For now, a family is left grieving, a community is in shock, and investigators are working to piece together what happened during those tragic early morning hours.
