Sydney, Australia is on edge after a second violent hammer attack left a man hospitalized with serious head injuries.
Police say officers were called to a bus stop on Addison Road in the suburb of Marrickville just after 9 a.m. Friday following reports of an assault. When first responders arrived, they found a man suffering significant head trauma.
Paramedics treated him at the scene before rushing him to the hospital, where he remains in serious condition. Authorities have not yet released details about a suspect, and the investigation is ongoing.
The latest attack comes just days after disturbing video surfaced showing three Korean men allegedly being assaulted with a hammer in downtown Sydney.
That earlier incident happened around 3 a.m. Wednesday near the intersection of Liverpool and Pitt streets, outside a convenience store. Video circulating online appears to show one of the alleged attackers pulling a hammer from a bag before striking one of the men multiple times.
Another victim is seen being punched in the back of the head while appearing caught off guard. The three men reportedly raised their hands and tried to calm the situation instead of fighting back.
One of the victims later posted a photo of his black eye on social media, writing, “Two days ago… I almost got killed with a hammer.”
Despite the violence, he said he does not blame the country.
“I don’t hate Australia. I just hope things move in the right direction and people respect everyone,” he wrote. “Something bad has already happened to me, but I hope it doesn’t happen to anyone else.”
When asked why he didn’t fight back, he said escalating the situation would have only made things worse.
“Everyone is asking why I didn’t defend myself. Fighting is never a good thing,” he wrote. “They were just young kids. They need guidance and support. I want to look at life positively.”
Police confirmed that the three victims in the downtown attack, ages 23, 28 and 29, were treated at the scene. The suspects fled before officers arrived and remain at large.
Investigators are still working to determine whether the two hammer-related attacks are connected.
