What started as a dumb prank ended in bloodshed after a Washington state man allegedly hunted down a group of teens, threatened to kill them, robbed them, and then shot one of them at close range over a water balloon.
Police say 31-year-old Majeed Guerry of Tacoma flew into a rage on February 28 after teens in another car threw a water balloon through his open window and soaked him.
Instead of letting it go, investigators say Guerry chased the teens down, cornered their vehicle, and got out ready for revenge.
According to court documents, he allegedly exploded at the group, demanding to know if they thought it was funny to throw water at his car. But the confrontation quickly turned terrifying.
Police say Guerry, a four-time convicted felon, began threatening the boys with chilling statements, including that he should kill them all right there. Investigators say he repeatedly singled them out with racial threats, allegedly telling them he would kill the “white boys” in the car.
Then things got even worse.
Authorities say Guerry robbed the teens, demanding they hand over everything they had. According to the affidavit, he became enraged when one of the boys first gave him just $1, threw it back, and demanded more. The teens then handed over $100.
But even that didn’t end it.
Police say Guerry pistol-whipped one of the teens sitting in the front passenger seat, striking him in the face multiple times. Investigators say he then pressed the gun against the teen’s temple and chest while continuing to threaten him.
The victim later told police he remembered the gun feeling cold against his temple and hearing Guerry asking, “You think that’s funny?” while threatening to kill everyone in the car.
Then, according to the affidavit, Guerry shoved the gun through the window, placed it less than a foot from the teen’s chest, and pulled the trigger.
The boy survived, but suffered serious injuries and was hospitalized. Police say he was able to speak with investigators and describe the horrifying attack.
After the shooting, authorities say Guerry slammed the car door shut and walked away. The teens called police, and investigators later found Guerry at a nearby casino, where he was arrested.
He has now pleaded not guilty to multiple charges, including assault, robbery, and unlawful possession of a firearm.
Guerry’s bail was set at $150,000.
