A quiet neighborhood has been left shaken and searching for answers after a couple was found dead inside their home following a concerning welfare check request from a worried family member.
Authorities were first alerted by the couple’s son-in-law, who hadn’t heard from them in several days and asked deputies to check on their well-being. When officers arrived, they found him waiting outside — and quickly noticed the couple’s car still sitting in the garage, raising immediate concern.
What they discovered inside was devastating.
According to reports, Frederick was found lying on the floor with a gunshot wound to the head, while Claire was discovered on the couch, also suffering from a gunshot wound.
The shocking scene has left neighbors in disbelief, especially those who knew the couple for years.
“It makes zero sense. It makes zero sense,” one neighbor said. “They were very nice people, always kind, always friendly. I’m just shocked.”
Those who lived nearby say the couple had been part of the community for more than a decade — and were known for their love of their dog, Luna.
Just days before the tragedy, everything seemed completely normal.
“I heard them in the backyard playing with Luna, throwing the ball and frisbee,” the neighbor recalled. “They were laughing, just enjoying themselves. They got so much joy from that dog.”
Adding to the mystery, the couple had recently built a new home in Columbus but still spent time at the Liberty Township property, where they ran a financial planning business.
One neighbor said she had just spoken with Claire earlier in the week — and nothing seemed off.
“She was talking about painters at their new house and how she was finally getting settled in,” the neighbor said. “She seemed really happy.”
That’s what makes the situation even harder to understand.
“This is completely out of character,” the neighbor added. “They had a great family, they were kind people… I just can’t believe it. You keep thinking there has to be another explanation.”
As investigators work to piece together what happened, the community is left grappling with a tragedy that, for now, simply doesn’t add up.
