A shocking case out of Mississippi is unfolding in court, where a college student is accused of killing his roommate after a bizarre argument—and then trying to cover it up in a gruesome way.
Randall Smith, 23, is on trial for the 2022 shooting death of his roommate, Flynn Brown, on the campus of Jackson State University.
According to testimony, what allegedly started as a dispute over donuts quickly escalated into something far more serious.
Jurors heard from another roommate who described walking into a disturbing scene—blood on the floor and what appeared to be a container stained with it. He also testified that he later saw Smith dragging a large box covered with a sheet toward the parking lot.
Prosecutors say Smith had placed Brown’s body inside that box and dragged it down multiple flights of stairs in an attempt to move it to his car.
An officer testified that the box was pulled a significant distance across the property, leaving a trail behind. When police searched the dorm room, they reportedly noticed a strong smell of bleach and signs of blood in the sink.
Jurors also listened to a recording in which Smith admitted to shooting Brown—but claimed it was self-defense.
According to Smith, the argument began when Brown allegedly took his donuts, leading to a confrontation that turned physical. He told police he grabbed a gun from his room and shot Brown, saying he felt overpowered.
But prosecutors are pushing back on that claim, arguing that Brown did not pose a deadly threat.
The case has taken an emotional toll, especially as details about the victim’s life were shared in court.
Brown, who was originally from New Jersey, had transferred to Jackson State with dreams of playing football. Friends and family described him as kind, supportive, and someone who brought people together.
He had even been looking forward to heading home for the holidays, with his plane ticket already booked.
