A simple traffic stop turned into a major breakthrough in a disturbing federal case — and ended with a shocking guilty plea.
Donald Eugene Fields II, 61, has admitted to child sex trafficking after being captured earlier this year, according to federal prosecutors.
The arrest happened in Lady Lake, Florida, when officers pulled Fields over for what they thought was a routine stop. Instead, they discovered he was on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted list — instantly turning the situation into a high-profile takedown.
Authorities say Fields had been on the run since 2022, when he was first indicted but failed to appear in court.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Missouri, Fields admitted he accepted money, vehicles, gifts, and even vacations in exchange for allowing a co-defendant access to a teenage girl.
Prosecutors say the abuse began when the victim was just 14 years old.
From 2013 through 2016, Theodore “Ted” John Sartori Sr. allegedly engaged in repeated illegal sexual activity with the girl while providing Fields with cash and other benefits.
In one particularly disturbing detail, investigators say Sartori paid for a trip to Florida and drove the minor there with the intent of continuing the abuse — and that Fields encouraged the situation.
After years of evading authorities, Fields is now facing the consequences.
He pleaded guilty to one count of child sex trafficking and is scheduled to be sentenced on July 15. The charge carries a minimum sentence of 10 years in prison, with the possibility of life.
Sartori, 65, has already pleaded guilty to related charges and is currently serving a 10-year sentence.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation along with local and state agencies.
