A shocking tragedy is unfolding in Utah after a mother was found dead inside her home—just one day after filing for divorce.

Police in Herriman say they were called to the residence on the evening of April 17 for a welfare check after family members couldn’t reach her. When officers arrived, they made a grim discovery—two bodies inside the home.

Authorities say the woman appeared to have been killed by blunt force trauma, while a man found at the scene is believed to have died from a self-inflicted injury. Investigators are treating the case as a suspected murder-suicide.

Family friends have since identified the victim as Lindha Paola Zerpa Lara, a 43-year-old mother and beauty business owner who had moved to the U.S. from Venezuela about eight years ago.

What makes the case even more chilling is the timeline.

Friends say Lara had filed for divorce just one day before she was killed. She was also expected to meet with her estranged husband on the day of her death, though authorities have not confirmed whether the man found at the scene is the same person named in the divorce filing.

Police say the man did not live at the home, adding another layer of mystery to the case.

Thankfully, the couple’s young child was not home at the time.

Those who knew Lara say she was a bright, hardworking woman who was deeply connected to her community. She owned a beauty business in Salt Lake City and was described as someone who always tried to uplift others.

Authorities have not released the names of those involved as the investigation remains ongoing.
