Kacy Claassen

A bizarre case out of New York City has left parents and school officials stunned after a 28-year-old woman was accused of pretending to be a teenager in order to enroll at a Bronx high school.

According to authorities, Kacy Claassen allegedly used a fake name and false birthday to pose as a 16-year-old student at Westchester Square Academy.

Investigators say Claassen enrolled at the school on April 13 under the name “Shamara Rashaad.”

Officials claim she also provided a fake birth date to support her story that she was a teenage student.

According to reports citing a criminal complaint, Claassen allegedly told the school’s principal that she had moved from Ohio when she enrolled.

But the shocking scheme reportedly began unraveling after the principal later discovered a Facebook post featuring Claassen’s real name and photograph.

Authorities say the principal confronted her after realizing the woman attending the school may not actually be a teenager.

According to investigators, Claassen later claimed she enrolled because a friend pressured her into doing it so she could receive public assistance benefits.

The strange allegations quickly triggered a police investigation.

Claassen has since been charged with criminal impersonation and trespassing, according to New York court records.

Despite the accusations, she has pleaded not guilty.

Court records show Claassen was released on her own recognizance and is scheduled to return to court on June 15.

The case has sparked concern throughout the school community, with officials condemning what they described as serious enrollment fraud.

“Enrollment fraud is a serious crime that fundamentally undermines New York City Public School values,” a spokesperson for New York City Schools said in a statement.

Officials added that the New York City Police Department is actively investigating the allegations and that authorities plan to pursue “all appropriate legal action” against anyone involved.

School officials also said support services are being made available to students and staff affected by the disturbing situation.
