Jevon Mallory, 32, was arrested Tuesday after police were called to the McAlister’s Deli where he worked.
According to a criminal complaint reviewed by Law&Crime, the alleged attack happened around 10:30 a.m. inside an office at the back of the restaurant.
Police said the victim, whose name has not been released, was inside the office when Mallory walked in and locked the door behind him.
Mallory allegedly told the woman he “was going to kill her.”
Authorities said Mallory had applied for a promotion at the restaurant but was passed over. The promotion instead went to the co-worker he is now accused of attacking.
According to police, Mallory grabbed the woman’s neck with both hands and began strangling her.
He allegedly wrestled her to the floor and continued strangling her until she “went limp,” according to the complaint.
The restaurant’s general manager reportedly heard a “commotion” coming from behind the closed office door and quickly unlocked it.
When the manager entered, Mallory let the victim go, and she was able to escape the office.
The general manager then locked Mallory inside the office and called police.
When Bridgeton Police Department officers later spoke with Mallory, he allegedly told them he was angry that he did not get the promotion.
Police said Mallory admitted he went to the restaurant that morning intending to kill the woman and said he would have done it if the manager had not walked in.
The complaint also noted that Mallory had previously pleaded guilty to assault in 2014 in connection with the strangulation of a woman in a bathroom at Meramec Community College. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison in that case.
Mallory has been charged with assault and burglary.
He remains in custody at the St. Louis County Justice Center on a $500,000 cash bond.
His next court appearance is a bond hearing scheduled for June 16.

Why are these blacks always committing crimes? Its like they just can’t function in a civilized society….
Lock him up and throw away the key! He admitted he was going to kill her and he attacked a person once before. Rehabilitating him is iffy. He’ll only get out and do it again! To many criminals are released early that commit crimes again and again! Is that the justice that we all want?
