A Florida man was arrested over the weekend after police found a teenager allegedly being hidden inside a clothes dryer at his residence.
Christopher Michael Veit, 53, was charged with several offenses, including unlawful sexual activity with a minor, after police rescued the teen from a Key Largo, Fla. residence on Sunday, June 21, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
The teen was taken to the hospital and later transferred to the custody of a family member.
Investigators say the teen called 911 on Saturday morning accusing Veit of holding her against her will. Officers responding to the call found her inside the dryer, according to the sheriff’s office. They allege Veit restrained her, forced her inside the dryer and took away her phone when she wanted to leave.
It wasn’t immediately clear how Veit knew the alleged victim, who is not from Florida.
Police allege Veit had engaged in “ongoing sexual activity” with the juvenile.
Officers allegedly found sheets of counterfeit currency at the residence and notified the U.S. Secret Service.
Veit has been charged with kidnapping/false imprisonment, interference with child custody and unlawful sexual activity with a minor.
Court records for this case were not available online.
