A 10-year-old boy is accused of stabbing a Dollar Tree employee several times after allegedly trying to rob the Pennsylvania store at knifepoint, police said.
Officers were called to the Dollar Tree on Paxton Street in Swatara Township, near Harrisburg, at about 5:06 p.m. on Monday, June 29, following reports of a robbery involving a knife.
When police arrived, they found store employees holding the boy until officers could take him into custody. One worker had been injured during the confrontation.
According to the Swatara Township Police Department, witnesses said the child entered the store carrying a fixed-blade knife, threatened an employee and demanded money.
Other workers quickly stepped in to help and managed to overpower the boy, police said.
During the struggle, however, one employee was stabbed multiple times and had to receive medical treatment.
Authorities have not identified the injured worker or released details about the severity of the wounds.
The boy was charged with robbery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of an instrument of crime.
He is being held at a secure juvenile detention facility while the case moves through the court system.
Police have not released any additional information about what may have led to the alleged robbery attempt.
The laws are really not strict enough, and kids can seem to get away with anything. If you tell me a 3 year old shot a brother/sister because a gun was found, that would be excusable, to the child, NOT the parents. But these teens, and very young ones at that, are old enough to know right to wrong. If a child this young has a weapon of any kind, and commits a serious crime, then they should be treated as an adult, because these are adult crimes! What do you think is going to happen, if they get away with it?
