Three former Oklahoma nursing home employees are headed to prison after authorities said they recorded disturbing Snapchat videos that humiliated vulnerable residents, including footage of patients using the bathroom, a worker playing with a woman’s pubic hair and an employee mocking a dead resident.
McKenzie Bolfa, 22, and Aubrey Granata, 23, were each sentenced to 10 years behind bars, while Jade Williams, 23, is serving a 12-year prison sentence.
All three pleaded guilty to elder abuse and conspiracy in connection with incidents at Golden Age Nursing Home in Guthrie, about 30 miles north of downtown Oklahoma City.
Police arrested the women in June 2024 after the Guthrie Police Department launched an investigation two months earlier.
The case began when a former nursing home employee who was friends with the suspects received a Snapchat video from Williams. According to a probable cause affidavit obtained by Law&Crime, the video showed Bolfa twisting the pubic hair of a female resident.
The caption allegedly read, “give me a mohawk.”
Williams reportedly recorded the video while Granata could be heard laughing in the background.
Police said the patient was naked from the waist down and lying motionless. The person who received the video alerted nursing home administrators, who then contacted law enforcement.
During an interview with investigators, Bolfa said she did not know exactly why police wanted to speak with her. She claimed she had heard a rumor involving her providing perineal care to a resident who had soiled herself but denied knowing that a video had been recorded.
Bolfa told police that she had asked Williams and Granata to help her clean the resident.
When questioned about twisting the woman’s pubic hair, Bolfa claimed she had only been cleaning away fecal matter. She also said that any laughter may have been because she and the resident were joking with each other.
Bolfa insisted that residents would have known if photographs or videos were being taken inside the nursing home.
Investigators said her explanation did not match the evidence.
“They had excuses for some of their behavior, but it didn’t really match up with the evidence that we had uncovered,” Guthrie Police Chief Don Sweger told local NBC affiliate KFOR.
Police searched all three women’s phones and reportedly discovered several additional videos and photographs involving nursing home residents.
Multiple recordings showed patients using the bathroom, according to the affidavit. One video allegedly included a close-up image of a resident’s genitals, while another showed a woman with her breast exposed.
Another recording reportedly showed Williams pulling down a patient’s pants and exposing the resident’s diaper.
Detectives also found a photograph of Bolfa lying on a bed beside a deceased patient. According to the affidavit, Bolfa had her mouth open wide as she appeared to imitate the dead woman’s facial expression.
“It’s probably one of the saddest things,” Sweger told KFOR. “We take service to everybody very responsibly, but especially for those who don’t have a voice for themselves.”
Golden Age Nursing Home said the employees had passed background checks and had received training concerning resident safety and rights before the allegations surfaced.
“Golden Age Nursing Home endeavors to ensure the safety and well-being of its residents,” the facility said in a statement released to local media.
“Upon receiving information related to certain allegations against its employees, the facility began working with local law enforcement and other appropriate authorities to respond. The employees involved had cleared background checks, were educated related to resident’s rights/safety and have been terminated from employment.”
“We are committed to protecting the privacy and safety of the residents and families involved and will continue to keep them updated with any developments related to this matter,” the statement continued.
Bolfa and Granata were sentenced Tuesday, while Williams received her sentence last year.
All three women are also facing civil lawsuits filed on behalf of the victims.
