A Houston motel maintenance worker was shot multiple times after telling a group of young people to leave the property, police said.
The attack happened shortly after midnight Sunday near Old Spanish Trail and La Salette Street on Houston’s south side.
Officers responding to reports of gunfire found the maintenance worker, described as a man in his late 50s, suffering from several gunshot wounds.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital and is expected to survive, according to the Houston Police Department.
Investigators believe the violence began after the worker confronted a group at the motel and told them to leave.
HPD Lt. J.P. Horelica said the group later returned to the property, confronted the worker and opened fire.
The victim was reportedly standing in the doorway of his motel room when he was struck by multiple bullets.
Police are searching for four male suspects and one female suspect, all believed to be in their late teens or early 20s. They were reportedly wearing hoodies in several different colors.
Authorities have not determined whether the suspects were registered guests at the motel or had another connection to the property.
No arrests have been announced, and investigators have not released additional details about what led to the original confrontation.
The shooting remains under investigation.
